Hey Sarah,

i was just looking at my previous conversations. It looks like I completely forgot to thank you for the advice you gave me a couple of weeks ago. Anyhow, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to look at my site. I am still working on it, but it looks much better now.

While you can't do anything about the title of the book, I like the cover illustration. Its design communicates the mystery of the plot which seems to center on a search. Just a thought: Although I understand the vagaries of intellectual property, Reed's book may get lost in the Googling for info on Sinatra's famous Rat Pack.

Thanks for the info I took the Advanced Fiction Writing class on ed2go in January and found it wonderful. I'm now revising my 8 novels that have kicked around in drawers so long. My favorite writing group (15yrs ago) was a group of published writers that just chatted and shared stories, and we complained about our publishers, etc. Supporting and critiquing are such different positions. I enjoyed the class with the 'discussion page' for the class critiques and for the instructor's comments. What does Michael teach you that would take five years? Or is there something here that I don't understand. $75 for six weeks is not exorbitant, certainly, but after you have his input, where do you go from there? Apologizing ahead for any comment you feel is rude; it simply has me perplexed. Regards, Hanna

By the way, Michael is busy. He teaches, lectures, runs three groups, edits and writes. He published his first story at age 14! He's an amazing teacher and mentor. We are lucky to have him run our group.

The group runs in six-meeting segments, so his September date is right. Currently we have five members including Michael. Three of us have been together for five years or so. Michael will want to see an example of your fiction writing, so you can send that ahead I suspect. Just tell him who you are and why it's coming. The group convenes at 6:30 at my house in Fallbrook just off Mission near town. Each person reads six to eight pages of work, then in roundtable fashion we critique, with Michael last. He writes down all of his comments as do some of the others. Comments are handed to the writer at the conclusion of that person's read.
We do not argue, defend, explain "why" something might not be working; just absorb the information and learn from it. We have all been in groups that play nice with writers and found them lacking. If you join, and Michael will be the one to decide this, you are welcomed wholeheartedly. The three of us who have been together the longest, have published. That doesn't mean we are hot shot writers...just that we got something out there and it saw print! Looking forward to meeting you in September.

About

JeSais JeSais created this Ning Network.

Welcome San Diego Writers!

Grab a cup of coffee, pull up a chair and stay awhile. Let's talk about writing.

Keep a few things in mind as you post here:

1. Posts are public.
This is a public forum and all posts are archived on the web. Bottom line, don't say anything here you wouldn't want everyone (and I mean EVERYONE: your mom, your little brother, your future employer) to see. Forever.

2. Be On Topic.
This is a group of writers. We're here to talk about writing, the creation of writing, the business of writing, events about writing. We are also a community of friends to some extent, which means that on occasion, non-writing topics will come up. Use the Start a New Discussion link if you want to change topics, and be sure to Title and Tag your post appropriately. That way your fellow writers will be able to scan the list of active discussions and see which ones are of interest.

3. Be Respectful.
Don't really foresee a problem here, but we gotta say it anyway. Disagreements are fine, but please please don't resort to personal insults and/or name calling. Mean people are not cool and harassment, intentionally inflammatory remarks, and bigotry will not be tolerated.

4. Privacy.
We'll respect yours. We won't give away or sell names, contact information, etc. Please do the same for your fellow community members.

5. SPAM. Don't.

6. Ads.
Part of the deal with using this wonderful, free online tool (ning.com) is that it has Ads running along the side. We can upgrade to a professional account, but it will cost $20 per month, so if it bothers you, be prepared to pony up.
